Automaker sees growth across all brands, EV sales nearly double

General Motors announced a robust 17% increase in U.S. sales for the first quarter, with all four of its brands—Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, and Buick—posting double-digit gains. The company led the industry in total, retail, and fleet sales for the quarter.

GM remains the market leader in full-size pickups and SUVs, and expects to retain its position as the second-highest seller of electric vehicles in the U.S. EV sales surged 94% in the quarter, as consumer interest in GM’s expanding lineup continued to grow.

Chevrolet and Cadillac post strong numbers

Chevrolet posted a 14% increase in sales, making it the brand’s best first quarter since 2019. With strong performances from the Equinox EV and Blazer EV, Chevy is now the fastest-growing EV brand in the U.S.

Cadillac’s retail sales climbed 21%, including a 37% rise in electric vehicle deliveries. The luxury brand continues to build momentum in the premium segment.

GMC and Buick break historical records

GMC achieved its best first-quarter performance ever, with an 18% increase in sales. Meanwhile, Buick had its strongest quarter since 2006, with sales rising 39% year-over-year, reflecting the brand’s renewed consumer appeal and improved product mix.

“GM’s sales growth outpaced every other major automaker, and the driving force is our portfolio,” said Rory Harvey, GM executive VP and president of global markets. “We’re the industry leader in trucks and affordable small SUVs, Cadillac is growing significantly in luxury, and we have the broadest portfolio of EVs in the industry.”
